Tanks - The history of a sporting institution
|

The first
drop that was to become the waterfall known as the Taree Tanks fell
in the spring of 2003. The brain child of Trent Williams with
creative assistance from brother Brad and mate Matt Paff, over a few
beers at the local pub (the Union Hotel North Sydney), a sporting
institution was born. |
| A team of
players, from chiefly a Taree origin, was brought together, a shirt
sponsor found and a team entered into the Cammeraygal Summer
Competition for 2003/04. The team was to bear the name of the
sponsor, which given the team's creative home, was appropriately the
"Union Hotel". |

| A
change of sport brought a change of name, with the Taree Tanks
making their debut in the 2004/05 Wentworth Park Summer Oz-Tag
competition.
The name "Taree Tanks"
was born out of a collaboration between Paff and Erickson, with the
former seizing upon the name Tanks which was used by the latter to
name a fictitious Mid-North Coast (Group 3) of Origin NRL team for
the X-Box game "Rugby League". |

| 2004/05
also saw the creation of the Tanks first logo (as shown on right),
and the first ever website (click here
to view). |

| Injuries
and poor performances in the Oz-Tag arena (after being graded in the
top competition based on 3 wins in their first 3 games of the
season), saw the Tanks switch back to the Cammeraygal Summer Touch
competition for the 2005/06 season. It is here where the legend of
the Tanks really begins. |
